Chili Pepper

Capsicum annuum
Solanaceae

Temperature

  • Germination: 22-24°C
  • Growth: 24-26°C

Light

  • Chili peppers do best with plenty of light.
  • We recommend germinating with 12 hours per day for the first 5 to 6 weeks.
  • Raise to 14 to 16 hours per day for two to three weeks.
  • Lower to 10 hours per week until fruiting.

Soil

  • The chili pepper requires fertile soil: a mix that is particularly loose and drains well.
  • For chili peppers, we recommend this soil mix.

Time Of Growth

  • Expect about 10 days for germination and about 60 to 90 days from seed to harvest, depending on variety.

HOW TO START

  • Seeds can be sown in seed beds and transplanted into larger pots, or directly into the pot of your choosing. If sowing directly, plant at least three seeds to start, and move to one plant per pot as they mature.

WATERING & CARE

  • Regularly water the plant. The soil must never dry out completely, but never be too wet either.

How To Use

  • Chili peppers picked at full ripeness can be used fresh or dried. Leave out in the sun or heat in the oven under 35°C to dry. Once dried, grind into a powder to use in seasoning meals.
