Strawberry

Fragaria spp.
Rosaceae

Temperature

  • Germination: 4°C + 20°C
  • Growth: 21°C by day, preferably 16-18 °C by night

Light

  • Strawberries do best with plenty of light.
  • 12 to 16 hours per day are recommended for growing indoors with Bulbo lights.

Soil

  • Strawberries do well in sandy soils rich in organic matter.
  • For strawberries, we recommend this soil mix.

Time Of Growth

  • Expect about 60 to 90 days from seed to harvest, depending on variety.

HOW TO START

  • Alpine strawberries are best for indoor cultivation because they do not spread long runners.
  • If starting from seed, place the seeds wrapped in aluminium foil (to avoid light) in the fridge at 4°C for 48 hours. Remove from aluminium and wrap in a moist paper towel, leaving in a dark place for another 24 hours out of the fridge at ambient temperature. Plant seeds ten or so per medium-sized container.

WATERING & CARE

  • Do not water too much because the strawberry does not like standing water.
  • Use fertilizers rich in phosphorus and potassium.

How To Use

  • The strawberries will ripen at different times and are perfect for immediate consumption.
