Tomatoes

Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.
Solanaceae

Temperature

  • Germination: 22-24°C
  • Growth: 24-26°C

Light

  • Tomatoes do best with plenty of light.
  • We recommend germinating with 12 hours per day for the first 5 to 6 weeks.
  • Raise to 14 to 16 hours per day for two to three weeks.
  • Lower down to 10 hours per week until fruiting.

Soil

  • Choose a soil that drains easily and is slightly acidic.
  • For tomatoes, we recommend this soil mix.

Time Of Growth

  • Expect about 7 to 10 days for germination and 60 to 80 days from seed to harvest, depending on variety.
  • Tomatoes will mature at different times on the plant.

HOW TO START

  • Tomatoes need a warm, humid environment for germination.
  • Seeds can be planted directly into the pot about 3-4 mm under the soil at a distance of 6 cm from each other, and watered frequently to keep the soil moist.

WATERING & CARE

  • Water generously.
  • We recommend removing the ‘suckers’ almost every day. You’ll find these small shoots growing between the main stem and branches with leaves. By removing this extra growth, you will make your plant more productive.

How To Use

  • Nothing is sweeter than a fresh tomato. Pair with cucumber for a fresh salad, roast in the oven or simmer on the stove for a delicious sauce.
