Cucurbitaceae

Soil

  • Squash does well in medium-textured soils, rich in organic matter.
  • Good drainage is important, to avoid leaves from getting wet and rotting.
  • For zucchini, we recommend this soil mix.

Time Of Growth

  • Expect about 30 days from seed to flower harvest, depending on variety.
  • Fruit will appear shortly after flowering.

HOW TO START

  • Sow the seeds directly into the ground by putting two or three seeds in each hole positioned with the narrowest part of the seed facing down.

WATERING & CARE

  • During growth it is helpful to fertilize with dissolved nettle (for an organic garden) or a quick-acting fertilizer.
  • Water when the soil is dry.

How To Use

  • The fruits are collected when they are tender and not fully developed. After the first harvest, the plant will continue to produce.
  • The flower can be harvested opened or closed according to culinary tradition and need.
